8 Reasons Why Your Nipples Hurt

Some causes of nipple pain include: cancer, allergy, skin problems, inflammation and so on.

It is necessary to know all the causes of nipple pain in order to avoid discomfort. Below are likely causes.

1.  Friction and sensitivity

Your nipples could ache because of the clothes you wear, especially during sports, and it can cause sores on the nipples

You should desist from wearing tight bra for long hours, as it could result in infections and sore nipples.

2. Inflammatory disorders

A breast infection like mastitis can cause nipple pain, redness on the breasts, swollen breasts, pain and burning during breastfeeding. Hormonal changes can also lead to nipple pain.

3.  Environmental factors

Nipple pain could be a result of breast chafing which is common among athletes and breastfeeding mothers. This in turn can result in irritation, dry sores, and cracked nipples.

4. Allergy problems

Sometimes, we feel pain around the breasts due to allergies which could be a result of the detergent we use to wash. This can cause rashes, redness and itching on and around the nipples.

5. Poor hygiene

Some women don't wash their bra. A dirty bra can lead to rashes on the breasts which can lead to infection on the nipples.

It is important to always keep the nipples clean in order to avoid itching. You can clean your nipples every other day with cotton wool and olive oil.

6.  Sexual activity

Some women experience pain in their nipples during or after sexual activity with their partners. This could be a result of fondling during sex.

7. Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Breastfeeding can also cause severe nipple pain. As a matter of fact, some women’s nipples bleed during breastfeeding and this might lead to sores on the nipples that will heal with time.

Another reason why women experience nipple pain is pregnancy. Some women feel more pains than others.

8. Nipple cancer

Nipple pain can also be caused by nipple cancer. This condition is rare, but it can affect both nipples, one nipple after the other.
