Court of Appeal reopens Governor Sanwo-Olu’s victory case.
The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, on Tuesday ordered the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Lagos State to resume hearing on the petition of victory of the ruling party’s candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as Governor of Lagos State.
Owolabi Salis, the Alliance for Democracy governorship candidate, is the petitioner who is challenging the victory of Sanwo-Olu at the March 9, 2019, governorship election.
“From the records, it is clear that the tribunal was wrong to have declared the petition as an abandoned petition.
“The case is to be remitted to the lower court for expeditious hearing of the matter,” the court held.
Apart from Owolabi’s petition, the appellate court has also reawakened the Labour Party governorship candidate Ifagbemi Awamaridi’s petition.
The court said the decision of the tribunal dismissing the petition filed by the party was wrong, stressing the need to return the case to the tribunal.
