DSS Seeks Court’s Approval To Detain Sowore For 90 Days

Sowore to Spend 90 Days in Detention

Funsho Akinwale

In spite of the public’s outcry over the detention of Omoyele Sowore, Sahara Reporters’ publisher, the Department of State Service has approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, to seek an order to detain the convener of the RevolutionNow protest for additional 90 days to further investigate the matter.

The request formed the main relief in an ex-parte application filed by the DSS, FHC/ABJ/CS/ 915/19, which was argued on Tuesday by its lawyer, G. O. Agbadua.

After Justice Taiwo Taiwo listened to the argument of Sowore’s counsel, he adjourned the case till Thursday, August 8, 2019.

The justice, in his ruling, noted that he needed time to examine the exhibits filed along with the application, which include two copies of digital video disks (DVD), before he could form his opinion on the issue.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2019 general elections was last Saturday arrested by operatives of DSS in a hotel somewhere in Lagos, before he was moved on Sunday to Abuja where he is presently being detained.
