The Senate, on Tuesday, requested for the 2020 budget from President Muhammadu Buhari in a bid to ensure that the Appropriation Bill is ready before the federal makers resume from their recess which ends by late September.

The move by the two National Assembly leaders, Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, is to return the nation’s budget cycle to January-December.

Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, in his statement made available to the media said preparation was underway to start working on 2020 budget as soon as the Senate resumes in September.

“We expect the executive to work on the budget on time so that they can lay it before the National Assembly on time, latest before our resumption in September or in the first week of October.

“Once we receive it, we will start work on it and we should be able to pass it latest by the middle of December.

“When we achieve this, the budget will be fully implemented and we will see the result in the rapid social and economic growth and development of the country,” he said.
