Barely a week after the Emir of Kano, Mallam Sanusi Lamido, officially married his fourth wife in a grand ceremony in Kano, SOAS University, in the United Kingdom, has awarded him with an honorary doctorate degree.

The former CBN governor was among the public figures in the fields of finance, journalism, law and literature honoured at this year’s graduation ceremony of the SOAS University of London.

The Emir’s award is coming on the heels for pioneering the introduction of Islamic banking in the Nigerian banking sector and his anti-corruption work in the financial industry during his tenure as CBN governor.

Other awardees include Lindsey Hilsum, award-winning journalist; Margaret Busby, editor, broadcaster and critic; as well as Nursyahbani Katjasungkana, a human rights lawyer.

“Our honorary awardees this year are all remarkable people who have been pioneers and innovators and sought to bring about change in the world,” Baroness Valerie Amos, director of SOAS, said.
