Austin Papi

Angry youths from Amaise, Umuokereke Ngwa, in Obingwa Local Government Area (LGA), Abia, took to the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway in Aba, the state capital, to protest the unlawful killing of their kinsman, identified as Chimaobi Nwaogu Uzoukwa by a soldier.

According to reports, a soldier and his colleague riding a motorcycle trailed the deceased to his father’s compound in Amaise, Umuokereke Ngwa, before murdering him for refusing to give them a daily toll fee of N100. The soldier then hopped on a motorcycle driven by another soldier and left the victim in the pool of his blood.

The police suspect that the soldier is either from a neigbouring Abia community or a gunman who was camouflaged in military uniform to commit the heinous crime. Further investigations would be made as the police wait for confirmation from the Abia State military.

The angry youths of the area set ablaze an army outpost at Ohanze in Obingwa LGA before arriving Opobo junction where they also set ablaze a stationary police vehicle, belonging to 'Mopol 55'

Drivers using the affected roads were forced to abandon their cars and take to safety to avoid the wrath of the rampaging youths. Some of the residents of the affected community walked home, as commercial buses refused to commute passengers with fear of been lynched by the angry protesters.

It was nightfall, around 6:30pm, when the police deployed operatives to the heated areas at Opobo junction, to stop any group of protesters from scavenging the ever-busy road.
