Governor Ikpeazu Confirms Arrest Of Killer Soldier In Aba

The Governor Of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, declared on Thursday that the armed military personnel, who allegedly shot and killed a commercial motorcyclist in a community near Aba, has now been arrested by the Abia police.

The deceased, identified as Mr Chimaobi Uzoukwa, was reportedly killed for refusing to part with N100 bribe at Ohanze military checkpoint. The death of Mr Chimaobi led to raging protests by youths in the community who went on a wide rage, burning down a military checkpoint and a police vehicle.

According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Onyebuchi Ememanka, he announced the eventual arrest of the suspect during a condolence visit to the bereaved family of the deceased at Umuokereke Ngwa community, Obingwa Local Government Area (LGA), Abia State.

Mr Onyebuchi promised the deceased’s pregnant wife, his two sons and an aging mother that the governor of the state would do everything in his power to ensure that justice prevails for the deceased.

The identity of the alleged killer soldier has been disclosed as one Col. Ajayi, who was arrested and detained on Wednesday while trying to escape. The youth of the Obingwa community will feel at ease after the protests on Wednesday that led to the state police intervening and setting up perimeters in the community.
