Officers of the Zamfara State Police Command have announced the commencement of investigations into the failed attempt to burn down the residence of former State Information Commissioner, Ibrahim Danmalikin-Gidangoga.

SP Muhammad Shehu, the spokesman of the police command, told journalists that some unidentified youths had thrown burning materials into the residence on Friday morning, August 9, but the fire was eventually quenched.

“We have received the report of the incident. We have already embarked on an investigation to unravel those behind it,” Shehu said.

Shehu further admonished the youths to stop all forms of thuggery and violence, as the police command would deal decisively with anyone caught.

"It is unfortunate when the state is experiencing peace and stability, some people are trying to cause havoc,” he stated.

The APC Chairman in Zamfara, Alhaji Lawal Liman, condemned the incident, describing it as unfortunate and worrisome. He, thereafter, urged the security agencies to investigate the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Security agencies should, therefore, ensure the protection of our members, as every Nigerian has the right to political choice,” Liman said.

The former commissioner, Danmalikin-Gidangoga, had earlier thanked God for thwarting the attempt to burn his house. He also called on the state government to do everything in its power to stop political thuggery.

“We thank God for His intervention because if not that the burning materials fell on the concrete, it would have been a different story,” he said.
