Nigerians Remember Samuel Okwaraji On The 30th Anniversary Of His Death

Football lovers and followers of the Super Eagles have marked the 30th anniversary of the death of footballer, Samuel Okwaraji.

The Nigeria legend slumped and died at the National Stadium, Surulere during a World Cup qualifying match against Angola on the 12th August 1989.

Okwaraji, who was 25 at the time reportedly collapsed due to possible complications of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy 10 minutes to the end the game.

He has since been remembered every year by Nigerians for his exploits for the then Green Eagles during his time alive

And once again, in keeping to that traditions, Nigerians have gone on social media to remember him on the day it completed 30 years of his demise.

The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, set the tone and hundreds of Nigerians have followed through afterward.

In a video that was shared on the NFF's official Twitter handle they wrote:

"It's been 30 years since this real and true Nigerian Patriot passed on while on duty for the country. Keep resting in peace, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji. #WeRememberSam."
