A Capable Successor Will Take Over After My Reign - Awujale Of Ijebuland

“Don’t politicize my successor,” Awujale tells kingmakers.

Funsho Akinwale

Oba Sikiru Adetona is the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland in Ogun State. He spoke on his succession during the Ojude Oba Festival, which held on Tuesday, in an interview with FUNSHO AKINWALE of Happenings and a few other journalists.

Q

Who do you think will succeed you in Ijebuland after your reign?

Q
undefined

It is too early to be discussing that when I am not dead. When I eventually go to the great beyond, a capable successor will take over the stool.

Q

Though death is inevitable but I believe proper selection will be adopted by the king makers to ensure the continuous socio-cultural and economic advancement of Ijebuland.

Q

Is there any criteria for choosing the Awujale of Ijebuland?

Q
undefined

There is no certain criteria. Once you are chosen by the kingmakers with the laid down procedure then, that is the final.

Q

I have warned people in the authority that rich men should not be considered for the stool because it could derail the peace the town is known for.

And I have also told them not to politicize the process of selecting my successor because it would drag us backward.
