A Nigerian national, 37, was arrested with 600 grams of heroin, in Nand Nagri area of North East district in Delhi on Friday, August 30.
The man who has been identified as Uchenna Israel Obutt was apprehended by officials of the India police while on his way to meet a receiver in Northeast Delhi.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Atul Thakur they received "a tip-off that around 2 pm a foreigner will be going to deliver contraband in Uttar Pradesh and he will come with heroin near the Nand Nagri flyover."
They laid a trap around the intelligence they had gathered and Obutt which led to the arrest of the suspect.
A search was conducted on him, which led to the discovery of 600 grams of heroin, worth about Rs 1.25 crore in the international market.
Obutt who had been arrested by the Crime Branch in 2015 for using a fake visa and released on bail in February 2018, has now been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Atul Thakur further disclosed.
