The former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, on Tuesday, begged the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to temper justice with mercy, noting that he would clear his N537, 334,360.77 debt to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) in less than 12 hours.

The Social Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, through his counsel, Edoigiawerie Omoruyi, told the presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, that he had approached the commission with a promise to offset the debt before September 2.

He urged the court for an adjournment to enable him settle the case out of court.

You will recall that AMCON took possession of Duke’s Ikoyi residence after the court, on August 8, ordered the commission to take interim possession of the property over his inability to offset his debt.

Apart the from properties, the court authorized AMCON and UBA to take possession of funds in all accounts belonging to the former governor in other banks.

As at the time of filing this report, Duke was still struggling to pay the debt.
