2020 Budget To Be Submitted To Nass This Month - Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has informed journalists that the Federal Government is working towards proposing the 2020 appropriation bill to the National Assembly by the end of the month of September.

On Wednesday evening, the minister who spoke at an indoor meeting organized by the National Donor Coordination (NDC) in Abuja also highlighted 11 economic areas which are being prioritized by the Buhari administration for the 2020 budget.

"Thee 2020 budget preparation process has since begun, with the submission of plans in advance

"This process will ensure the government considers ongoing and planned aid interventions when making its 2020 budgetary allocations reflected in the Appropriation Bill," the minister said.

Mrs. Ahmed added that more meetings had been scheduled in the next few days to acquaint the agencies with ongoing and planned programmes in a bid to ensure the donor programmes aligned with the government's strategic priorities for the 2020 national budget.

In conclusion to the consultative meetings, Mrs. Ahmed Zainab laid out a set of guidelines that will be provided to support agencies' submission of the short and medium term plans broken down annually.

The 2019 budget, which was signed on May 27, 2019, totals a national expenditure of ₦8.92 trillion. It is expected that the 2020 budget would be higher than 2019 following countless projects, ranging from expressway constructions, railway upgrades, education sector, electricity and other public sectors.
