Boko Haram insurgents have made an assassination attempt on Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

It was reported that on Thursday, the insurgents fired shots at Zulum's convoy in an attempt to kill him. The attack took place at around 9 pm local time.

The security sources affiliated with the governor's convoy informed newsmen that the insurgents attacked the convoy in Konduga while the governor was returning from a political trip to Bama local council.

“The Borno Governor had visited Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, Askira Uba and Gwoza as part of his political outreach and continuation of his assessment tour of the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

“Luckily, the governor, his commissioners, and other vehicles in the convoy escaped unhurt but the last vehicle which is an army gun truck was pelted with bullets," one of the security sources revealed.

Borno State is said to be the resting home of the deadly sect, Boko Haram. The insurgents have claimed over 10,000 lives in their decade long reign of terror, climbing to the third spot on the list of most deadly terrorist groups in the world.

Their abode is the Sambisa forest in Borno, where they are said to he holding a handful of young girls and other persons hostage.
