Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced that the budgetary allocation to the education sector will be increased to 12 per cent (12%) from next year.

This development is coming after it was increased from three to 10 per cent (3% - 10%) a few days ago.

Governor Makinde has begun the fulfillment of his electoral promises to provide educational materials to students in the state, as the government has commenced distribution of free textbooks and exercise books to all students.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor’s promise to jerk up education budget to 12 per cent from the next budget cycle, adding that the governor believes all hands must be on deck to guarantee improved standards of education in the state.

The governor further vows to take Oyo State to an era where education will be well-planned and well-funded like it was for him during his childhood in the 80s.

"I enjoyed the same gesture from the government of Oyo State in 1980, so what we are doing today is not new. They provided for us chairs, tables, rulers, pencils, mathematical sets," the governor said.
