Dino Melaye has appealed the verdict of the Kogi State National Assembly Election Tribunal.
The sacked Senator representing Kogi West on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Dino Melaye, has moved to appeal the August 23 judgment of the Kogi State National Assembly Election Tribunal which made his victory void.
Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had challenged Melaye’s victory with a petition before he was last week sacked from parading himself as a senator.
The court has ordered for a fresh election within 90 days to ascertain the real winner of the seat.
Appealing the judgement, Melaye has approached the Court of Appeal, Abuja, requesting to set aside the judgement.
In the application, Melaye raised 23 grounds of appeal, faulting the decision of the tribunal.
Melaye, in his notice to the Appeal Court through his counsel, Ricky Tarfa (SAN), is seeking an order from the court to sustain his victory.
The new development is coming a few days after Melaye lost his governorship bid to Musa Wada at the just concluded PDP primary election in Kogi State.
