The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, on Tuesday lost his senatorial bid to PDP’s candidate, Senator Kola Balogun, at the election tribunal sitting in Oyo State.

The court, yesterday, further affirmed the victory of the sitting senator, Kola Balogun, declaring him winner of the national assembly election as previously announced by INEC.

Ajimobi had approached the tribunal to challenge the declaration of Balogun by the electoral body as the winner of the poll.

The PDP senator had scored 105, 720 votes to defeat the former governor who polled 92,218 votes.

Justice Anthony Akpovi, who led the three-man panel at the tribunal, while delivering his judgement, said that most of the witnesses called by the petitioner to tender the results of the polling units were ward collation agents and not the proper persons to tender the results.

The judge noted that the complaints of malfunctioning card readers could not invalidate the voter’s register, adding that witnesses presented by the petitioner were not relevant, as their statement were just rumours and speculations.

The tribunal, in its conclusion, upheld Balogun’s victory as the winner, for scoring majority votes and nullified Ajimobi’s petition for lack of merit.
