Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, the former presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party (ACP) in the 2019 election, and leaders of the Nigerian community in Cape Town have called on South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, to apologise to the countries whose citizens were killed in the recent xenophobic attacks.

She made this charge at a meeting that was held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Cape Town, South Africa.

Present at the meeting were Nigerian entrepreneurs, professionals and the Nigerian community led by the acting President of the Nigerian Community Western Cape, Cosmos Echie.

Other notable members of the delegation that met with Ezekwesili were Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo (Western Cape), Chief Vincent Nzekwe, Secretary, Simon Odumegwu, the representative of the Yoruba community in Cape Town, Chief T.A Odutayo, and the leader of the Ogoni community, Pastor Barry Wuganaale.

You will recall that 640 Nigerians living in South Africa had signed up for evacuation from the country on Monday, and as at the time of filing this report, the President of South Africa had not issued an official apology to the Nigerian government and other foreign states that lost their citizens in the xenophobic attacks. It remains to be seen if Nigeria will cut political and Economic ties with South Africa if their president remains mute.
