The first batch of 187 Nigerians arrived Lagos from South Africa on Wednesday night following incessant attacks in the country.

The returnees, who departed OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, around 4 pm aboard an Air Peace Boeing 777 aircraft, landed around 9:34 pm at Muhammed Murtala International Airport, Lagos.

The evacuees, who included adults, children and infants, expressed happiness about returning home safely from South Africa.

On hand to receive them was Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of Nigeria Diaspora Commission, and the Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema.

Other federal government agencies at the arrival hall included the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Abike, while briefing newsmen, disclosed that the federal government would assist the returnees with social intervention programmes to reintegrate them into society.

She said that the Bank of Industry had been charged to help those willing to learn vocational training, adding that more Nigerians are expected back home before the weekend.
