If you've been online the past few hours, you might have seen the gist of the arrest and arraignment of Nigerian singer, Dammy Krane.

The Afro-pop singer was arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos, yesterday after he was accused of threatening staff members of betting company, Merrybet Gold Limited, on July 25, 2019, and releasing a song in which he accused the firm of breach of contract.

A three-count allegation bordering on threat to life, defamation and conduct likely to cause breach of peace was levelled against him, to which he pleaded not guilty.

But what happened and how did the former Hypertek music artist get himself into this mess with the the betting company?

In July, Dammy Krane had featured on a Merrybet sponsored TV game show that pitched regular football fans against celebrities in a battle to win several prizes.

According to a close source, the music star lost to the fan, which pissed him off and subsequently led to him walking off the set where the program was being recorded somewhere in Lekki.

Moments after storming off the location, the 'ge kin ge' crooner uploaded a video accusing the betting company of owing him money. He then went on to grant interviews, calling out the betting company.

Seeing that his media moves were not yielding the desired results, the singer then went to the police station to file a complaint against the top-men of the betting company.

According to the source, in response to the move made by the singer, Merrybet pushed for his arrest. Dammy Krane was nabbed and thrown in prison where he spent the weekend before a suit was then filed against him on Monday.

He has since been released on bail by a magistrate court but that according to our source won't be the end of the case, especially if the singer makes any more moves.

We would be keeping an eye on this one to see how it plays out.
