Cramps during pregnancy can be painful. Pregnant women who are in their second trimester usually experience cramps mostly at night. Leg cramps occur because of the pressure on the legs, due to the weight of your baby and also due to blood circulation.
The more your baby grows, the more you experience cramps. This is because the growing baby puts extra pressure on the blood vessels and nerves. Below are ways to prevent leg cramps during pregnancy.
1. Always stretch your legs
As a pregnant woman, it is wrong for you to fold your legs. Always sit in a place where you can stretch your legs. For women who usually have cramps only at night, stretch your legs properly before going to bed.
2. Move around frequently
It is not advisable to sit in a place for a long time. Always move around and don't stand for too long. As a pregnant woman, avoid sitting and crossing your legs. This habit can hinder blood flow.
There are many exercises that can prevent leg cramps during pregnancy. You should engage in them. Start with your heels first, then exercise your toes.
4. Always drink water
Dehydration leads to muscle problems. Some pregnant women don't drink enough water simply because they don't want to visit the toilet too often. This usually has a negative effect on the mother and baby.
5. Massage with warm water
Women who experience leg cramps frequently can massage their legs with hot water or they can place a hot towel on the affected area.
