On Wednesday afternoon, a video of youths rioting in the market was uploaded by a Twitter user, Promise Chukwudum, who narrated the unrest in that part of the country.
According to reports, a man who was a member of the state vigilante at the main market in Onitsha, Anambra State, was shot dead by SARS operatives which got the youths angry.
"Just happening: There is a troubling exchange between SARS and some Onitsha youths at the Onitsha Main Market," Promise captioned the video.
"If you're in this area, please stay away. Looking forward to the day we can have a table discussion about this SARS epidemic that's affecting our communities. #ENDSARS."
In recent times, illegal killings, extortion and a host of other crimes against citizens have been atrocities committed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), and many have called on the government to dissolve this department of the police force.
