According to reports, Instagram will block content advocating weight loss and cosmetic procedures to teenagers. This is in line with moves to promote body positivity among young people.
The social media giant introduced a new policy to block persons under 18 from viewing posts associated with weight loss or cosmetic procedures.
Instagram policy manager, Emma Collins stated:
“We want Instagram to be a positive environment for its users and this policy is part of our ongoing work to minimize pressure people get sometimes as a result of social media”.
Furthermore, Instagram will add a feature that will allow users report a post which violates this policy. The App content reviewers will then take appropriate action.
Thus contents that make miraculous claims about weight loss or diet products and are attached to a discount or other purchase offers will be blocked from the platform.
This is not good news for Nigerian entrepreneurs who deal in weightloss products.
This change will also take place on Facebook.
