Rema Reminds Me Of Wizkid When I First Met Him - Akon

Popular Senegalese singer, Akon, has said in a recent interview that the fast-rising Mavin act, Divine Ikubor, popularly known by his stage name, Rema, reminded him of Wizkid.

Akon, the CEO of Konvict Music, maintained that whenever he listens to Rema’s music he remembers the Wizkid of old that he had met in Nigeria.

“This kid reminds me a lot about Wizkid when I first found him. And I love how he’s adapted to his age bracket. You can tell he’s young, his whole wave is young.

“His music is current, his production is amazing, his song is amazing. He’s gon’ do big. And then he’s coming out at the height of where Afrobeat is right now. He’s gon’ be a huge artiste eventually,” Akon said.

The 'Dumebi' crooner was listed in Akon's review of hit songs of rising stars from all over the world. Earlier this month, Rema's 'Dumebi' made it to Obama's list of songs he listens to in 2019. No other Nigerian artiste made the list.

The CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, signed Rema following an epic freestyle from the youngster, titled 'Boulevard'. It blew up on the social media platform, Twitter, and the music producer and millionaire signed Rema to his record label.

The artiste has gone on to take the Nigerian music industry by storm with hit singles like 'Corny', 'Why', 'Dumebi' and 'Iron Man'.

The comparison between Rema and Wizkid has been on for a long time. Many claim Rema will take the throne of Wizkid, but at 29, the 'Daddy yo' singer doesn't look like he would relinquish his throne anytime soon.
