Professor Charles Soludo, the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, has called the attention of the federal government to the rapid growth in population which may adversely affect the economy.

Soludo made the disclosure on Tuesday at the annual platform conference in Lagos.

He said one of the ways to dig the country out of the trap of poverty is to create opportunities for the unemployed to develop the labour force of the country.

The technocrat turned politician added that the structure of the economy can be changed through a new business model that will aid massive development.

“By the time a child is born in Nigeria and is 40 years of age, there will probably be 400 million Nigerians, at 80 years, there will probably be 752 million Nigerians.

"At that time I can imagine the four times the number of people today in Lagos.

"All that the people will need will be; food, water, medication, schools, hospitals, and they are going to need jobs. I want to talk about the future, are we really ready for the 400 million population?

“Our focus is on wealth creation in the future,” he said.
