There was jubilation in Kano State on Wednesday, as supporters of the ruling party trooped to the streets to celebrate the victory of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje after the election tribunal's judgement.

The governor, who is presently in South Africa with President Muhammadu Buhari on a three-day official visit, received the good news before embarking on the trip.

Justice Halima Shamaki, in her ruling, dismissed the petition of PDP's candidate, Abba, seeking to nullify the victory of Ganduje at the March 9 and 23 governorship elections.

The justice struck out the case on the ground that the petition lacked merit and failure to prove his evidence against the governor and the party in the poll beyond reasonable doubt.

Delivering her judgment, Justice Shamaki, who gave reasons why PDP's petition was struck out, said: “The difference between the outstanding votes at Gama was 128,000 votes, compared to the 26,000 votes which the PDP governorship candidate, Yusuf, was leading with on March 9. There was need for the election to be concluded through the rerun of March 23.”
