Former Nigerian international, Isaac Promise, has died following a heart attack he suffered while at the gym.
According to US authorities, Isaac who was the captain of Nigeria's team to the 2008 Beijing Olympics collapsed at his apartment gym in Austin, Texas.
The 31-year-old striker was playing for USL championship side, Austin Bold, and the club on Thursday said that he died on Wednesday night.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the death of the former captain of the Flying Eagles on the social media platform, Twitter.
"We are sad to hear of the sudden demise of former @NGSuperEagles forward, Isaac Promise. Promise was captain of the Beijing Olympics’ Eagles squad that won silver. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. May his soul Rest In Peace, Amen."
Chairman of Austin Bold FC, Bobby Epstein, also announced the passing of his teammate on Thursday.
“The greatest loss a team can suffer is not on the scoreboard, it’s the death of a fellow teammate,” Epstein wrote.
“It’s with shock and grief that we acknowledge the sudden death of Promise Isaac.
“On behalf of the BOLD organisation; we wish his wife, children and family strength and peace as they struggle to cope with his death.”
