Nigeria's Super Falcons will not be at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after they were edged out by Cote d'Ivoire in the qualifiers.

The Falcons were held to a 1-1 draw against the Ivorians at the Soccer Temple in Agege, Lagos, and were eliminated based on the away rules.

The first leg of the qualification matches between both sides had ended in a barren draw last week in Ivory Coast but the African Champions were expected to get a win in Monday's return leg but were stunned by the Ivorian ladies.

Kapho Nina handed the visitors a shocking lead 12 minutes into the game when her fine free kick beat goalkeeper, Nnadozie.

But that lead lasted only 22 minutes before Falcons captain, Asisat Oshoala, showed her class. The Barcelona Femina forward raced into the area before firing past the Ivorian goalkeeper, who had denied her previously, to level for Nigeria.

The Ivorians showed good defence against their host, limiting them to just half chances through the rest of the first half.

Both teams came out of the blocks in the second half and created more goalscoring chances, with the two goalkeepers having to deny the forwards in order to keep their sides in the game.

With elimination staring them in the face, the Nigerians turned on the heat in the final minutes of the game but they came up against a resolute Ivory Coast backline that kept their cool to earn an aggregate 1-1 draw that saw them progress on away goal rule.
