A university of Benin (UNIBEN) lecturer, Professor Okwechime Emmanuel has jumped to the defense of his colleagues after the recent BBC Sex for grades documentary went viral.

On Monday, BBC African eye aired the documentary which exposed lecturers in two of Africa's highly revered Universities, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Nigeria, and the University of Ghana.

In the hour-long documentary, four lecturers (two from both schools) were seen making sexual advances and even assaulting undercover journalists who posed as undergraduates.

One of the lecturers embroiled in the 'Sex for grades' scandal, Professor Boniface Igbeneghu, a lecturer at UNILAG, has since been suspended by the school and the church where he doubles as a senior pastor.

While defending his colleagues who have been exposed as sexual predators, Professor Okwechime Emmanuel, a University of Benin (UNIBEN) lecturer said that people were only looking at sexual abuse from one angle.

According to Okwechime who was reacting to the issue in an interview with Nigerian Info, some students also harass their lecturers sexually with their dressing. He said some students want sexually transmitted degree (STD).

He then added that when some lecturers refuse to agree to their demand they go as far as blackmailing the said lecturers.

Furthermore, Okwechime asserted that lecturers are human beings, not saints and in any organization where there are adult males and adult females, there is a natural attraction.
