The Governorship Election Tribunal in Adamawa State, on Friday, affirmed the victory of Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party as the governor of the state.

Justice Adediran Adebara, while delivering his judgement, dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress, challenging the victory of the sitting governor, adding that the petition lacked merit.

The ruling party, in its petition, had urged the court to nullify the election of Fintiri, saying that the poll was not held in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

APC, in its claim before the court, said that that there was over-voting in some places and non-use of the card reader in other places.

Dismissing the claims, Justice Adebara noted that the tribunal would ordinarily have struck out the petition outrightly because the direct beneficiary of APC, Senator Jibrilla Bindow, was not party to the petition.

He concluded that since the APC candidate was not interested in the case, it would be an exercise in futility.

The APC's lead counsel, Eme Asuquo, in his reaction to the ruling, said the party would examine the judgement before taking further step.
