Sex For Grades: FG To Collaborate With Police

Austin Papi

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has stated that it would work in close cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to stop the incessant cases of sexual harassment in Nigerian universities.

Babatunde Irukera, the Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, made a statement in Abuja last week, while noting that the commission would collaborate with more agencies ready to fight the despicable act raging in Nigerian universities.

Commissions, including the National Human Rights Commission and Civil Society Organisations, have offered their support in the fight against this scourge.

Irukera explained that the collaboration would help formulate a robust mechanism to support prevention, vindication and accountability in universities.

“The commission in furtherance of its mandate to protect consumers and in recognition of students as a vulnerable group of consumers receiving services from educational institutions is leading an effort to establish a framework to provide adequate protection and accountability," Irukera stated.

“This is to address this obvious and inexcusable pattern that appears prevalent in schools.

“The commission is immediately engaging the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Human Rights Commission.

“Others are the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Student Unions and other stakeholders.’’

He further urged citizens and students with credible information to send an email to the commission’s dedicated address: sexforgrades@fccpc.gov.ng.
