Mason Greenwood Signs New Manchester United Contract

Manchester United youngster, Mason Greenwood, has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2023, with the option to extend for a further year.

18-year-old Greenwood who is highly rated at the club put pen to paper during the week with the club making an official announcement on Friday.

The United Academy product who has been at the club since the age of seven made his first team debut last season and has become a more prominent member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team this season.

On signing the new deal, the England U-21 international said:

“Having grown up as a Manchester United fan, playing for the first team is a real dream come true. I know that, when I play for this club, I represent the whole Academy and I want to repay the faith that my coaches have shown in me with my performances on the pitch.

“I am learning all the time from the manager and his coaching staff and I know that this is the perfect club to help me reach my potential.”

United boss, Solskjaer, is a firm believer of youths and has expressed his confidence in the youngster by promoting him permanently to the first after letting Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave in the summer.

“Mason has progressed through our outstanding Academy and we are delighted with the progress he has made. At such a young age, he already has great pace and intelligence and he is such a natural finisher," Solskjaer said of the striker.

“Since he came into the first team, he has really impressed everyone with his drive and attitude. He has all the attributes to become a top player. Mason is learning every day in training and, with his work ethic, there is no doubt that he has an excellent future ahead of him.”

Greenwood, who is one of 12 Academy graduates who have featured in a first-team matchday squad this season for United, became the club's youngest starter in the Premier League era when he made his full debut against Cardiff City in May.
