Melaye, Adeyemi to slug it out on November 16.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that a new Kogi West Senatorial Election would be held on the same day as the State Governorship Election on November 16, 2019.
Senator Dino Melaye of the PDP and Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress would battle it out at the election.
In a statement signed by Mr Festus Okoye, Chairman, Information and Voters Committee, said that the senate election would hold simultaneously with the Kogi governorship election.
“The decision was taken at the commission’s meeting held on Monday.
“We also enjoin stakeholders to eschew violence and avoid acts capable of creating apprehension or a sense of fear before, during and after the elections,’’ he said.
The fresh election was called by INEC following the nullification of the result of the February 23 election by the state tribunal.
Dissatisfied by the tribunal ruling, Melaye had headed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the judgement, but the appellate court reaffirmed the state tribunal's earlier verdict, calling for a fresh poll to ascertain the true winner between the petitioner and APC candidate, Smart Adeyemi, and Melaye.
