Nigerian forward, Stephen Ode, scored UEFA Champions League debut for Genk in their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.

The former MFM star who was an 81st-minute substitute for compatriot, Paul Onuachu, got the consolation goal for his side in the home defeat.

Liverpool had raced into a 4-0 lead, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scoring twice and lone strikes by forwards, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, before Odey's goal in the closing stages of the game.

The former MFM star tucked home from close range in the 88th minute following an assist from the Democratic Republic of Congo's Dieumerci N'Dongala.

Although the late strike could not inspire Genk’s fight-back as they suffered their second loss in Group E, it would boost the confidence of the striker who has had little opportunity to impress since his move to Belgium.

21-year-old Odey joined the Blauw-Wit (Blue and White) in the summer from Swiss club, FC Zurich, where he had spent the previous two seasons after joining from NPFL side, MFM.

Genk remains at the bottom of the group with just a point after three matches. Their next champions league game is the reverse fixture against Liverpool at Anfield on November 5.
