The Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) has announced that the Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu, walked out of a budget defence session.

The panel informed newsmen that the minister who appeared before the committee to defend the ministry's budget was not competent enough to defend the budget. Mr Abubakar Aliyu had appeared before the lawmakers to defend the 2020 budget proposal of the ministry, but the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals prevented the minister from presenting the budget due to incompetence.

Senator Aishat Dahiru further requested the presence of the recognized minister, Babatunde Fashola, who is back to the same ministry for a second term in office. The SDP senate chairlady stated that Fashola must appear in person to clarify the implementation of some 2019 SDGs projects, as his signature was written in most of the corresponding projects and budget approval.

"Most of the replies to correspondences the committee exchanged with the ministry were personally signed by Fashola.

"The issues for which the committee is seeking clarification took place when Fashola was Minister of Power, Works and Housing, hence, he is the only one competent to shed light on them," Senator Aishat said.
