In one of the most horrific moments in the Premier League in recent times, Everton's Andre Gomes fractured his right ankle following challenges from two Spurs players.

The midfielder had collided with Heung-Min Son and was propelled into Spurs full-back, Serge Aurier, on 79 minutes leading to what has now been confirmed as a fracture-dislocation by Everton.

It's unclear which tackle caused the dislocation, as both Son and Aurier had lunged in with sliding tackles on the Portuguese.

The South Korean who went into the tackles first was, however, later shown red once. The severity of Gomes' injuries came to light after initially getting only a yellow card from referee, Martin Atkinson.

The supporters, backroom staff and both sets of players close to the horrific incident were left in shock while a visibly distraught Son made his way down the tunnel in tears.

At the time of Gomes' injury, Everton trailed Spurs 1-0 but a late header by Turkish striker, Cenk Tosun, deep into the added time rescued a point for the Toffees.

Gomes is now set to undergo surgery on Monday for the injury that is expected to keep him on the sideline for a while.
