Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, visited Balogun market in Lagos Island to get a first-hand view of the building that was wrecked by a horrific fire.

On Tuesday, business activities in the popular market in Lagos were disrupted after fire gutted a five-storey building along Martins Street, Lagos Island.

The inferno was only put out completely a day later by the Lagos State Fire Service and other agencies who supported them.

Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed, while unconfirmed reports claim one police officer lost his life when part of the building collapsed later at night.

As expected, the governor visited the site in the company of some other government officials and heads of the different emergency agencies.

Addressing the massive crowd that greeted him upon his arrival, the governor cautioned the people to be careful as the building was still a “life site.”

On the cause of the fire outbreak, the governor said it was not yet known at that time before stating that he had ordered for the Local Government Chairmen to meet with him at his office to address some of the problems he outlined.
