A Twitter user has shared his experience with an abusive girlfriend and how he managed to leave the relationship following repeated attacks by the lady at a party.

According to the self-acclaimed Ighala High Chief, he was suffering from low self-esteem at the time and the babe took advantage of it.

One time, the girl boasted to her friend that the only thing that would cause him to react was if she threatened his life.

"Dated a chick who used to slap me on a regular. Hit me for almost a year," the man wrote on his Twitter page.

"Her friend once asked her if she wasn't worried I'll hit her back & she said she knew that unless she threatened my life I'd never respond. Finally walked away when she hit me repeatedly at a party.

"Funniest thing about this thing is I'm 6"3. She was about 5"7. Can't even remember whether she used to jump for her hand to hit my face. This life sha.”

Quizzed on why he stayed for so long in the relationship even with all the abuse, he responded:

"Have no idea. She was really sweet at first. And somehow that started. And I somehow convinced myself that I deserved it. And that if I didn't upset her, she won't hit me. Inside life."
