A heavy flood has submerged schools, rice farms and power installations in over 37 communities of Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) in Benue State.

The flood, which was said to have led to the death of one person, has forced hundreds of people to abandon their homes and take refuge along the Guto-Oweto highway in the state.

According to reports, the overflow of the River Benue, following the release of excess water from the Lado Dam in Cameroon resulted in the flood.

The flood, which has been occurring occasionally, has now hit 37 communities, including the Agatu community. The people of this community were still recovering from herdsmen attacks when the flood occurred.
