Nigeria's Dream Team VII won't be at next year's Olympics in Tokyo after they failed to qualify from the group stages of the African U-23 Championship.

The Olympics Eagles crashed out of the tournament after failing to win against South Africa in their game on Friday.

Imama Amapakabo's team needed to get a victory against the South Africans to qualify for the next round but they were held to a goalless draw by the Amaglug-glug.

Nigeria finished third in the group with four points, one behind South Africa and two behind eventual group winners, Ivory Coast.

The Nigeria U-23 team, defending champions of the competition, were hoping to secure one of the 3 Olympics soccer tickets available to the top three of the championship.

But with their untimely elimination from the tournament which is holding in Egypt, their chances of defending the title they won four years ago erased that chance, likewise an opportunity to contest at the Olympics.

This latest failure by a Nigerian team comes just about a week after the Golden Eaglets were bundled out of the FIFA U-17 World Cup and months after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the Olympics.
