An up-and-coming South African musician, Daniel Marven, recently took to Twitter to share a video comparing similar lyrics and rhythm used by Nigerian music legend, late Fela Kuti, and Nigeria's biggest rave of the moment, Burna Boy.

Damini Ogulu, or Burna Boy as he is also called, was recently nominated at the Grammys for the World Best Album. His 2019 album, ‘African Giant’, earned him that nomination. After this major feat, Burna Boy has been on the lips of everyone, both home and in the diaspora.

He is often known to sample Afrobeat sounds and lyrics used by the great Fela Kuti. The South African musician has, however, accused Burna Boy of being a copy cat, saying his songs are not original but dubbed from Fela’s excerpts.

Nigerian Twitter users have taken it upon themselves to bash the South African singer, referring to him as xenophobic. While others have termed him a clout chaser, looking to promote his latest single by being controversial with a trending topic like Burna Boy.

Here are some reactions below.
