According to a survey closely monitored by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Imo State is said to have recorded the highest number of cybercrimes in the South-Eastern Geo-Political Zone.

The anti-graft agency also announced that it has convicted over 90 suspects for various degrees of cyber theft and financial crimes within the South-East this year alone.

Comrade Usman Iman, the Regional Commander of the EFCC in the South-East, made this disclosure at the 16th Anti-Corruption Situation Room (ACSR) organized by Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), in collaboration with McAthur Foundation in Enugu.

Iman expressed his displeasure as to the overly increasing rate of cybercrimes in Imo State, saying that the cybercrime rate in the state is alarming. He also added that the unofficial statistics he got about the state are really disturbing, from cyber theft to other fraudulent activities have reached an all-time high in Imo State.

"Imo definitely must have recorded the highest cybercrime cases in the South East Zone. The rate of cybercrime cases in the state is alarming, " Mr Usman said.

Cybercrimes or 'Yahoo Yahoo' as it's popularly called has become a bad act practised by this generation of Nigerian youths who want to make money so fast, and would not mind defrauding others to get it. Credit card scams, social media scams, frauds, and other activities are part of the active cyber theft in Imo State.
