Governor Wike’s SA Resigns Over Non-Payment Of Salary

Austin Papi

The Senior Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Physically Challenged Matters, Tekena Zephanian-Altraide, has resigned from his position over the alleged non-payment of salary and allowance by the government.

Zephanian-Altraide penned a fifteen-page resignation letter to the governor, claiming that the government seemed to have disengaged him from his appointment even before his resignation.

He also complained that since his appointment in 2016, his office had never had a running cost.

Zephanian-Altraide further explained that he struggled to pay his staff their allowances from his personal salary of about three hundred and twenty-eight thousand naira.

The former Special Assistant, however, commended the governor for appointing him, adding that it proved to the world that people living with disabilities could also be given government positions in any capacity.

Zephanian-Altraide said his worst regret was that even as SA to the governor, he still could not pay his father’s medical bill which led to his death in September since he was owed salary from July till date.

It is yet to be confirmed if the governor has accepted or rejected the resignation.
