The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is strongly behind Dino Melaye's move to file a petition at the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal.
Senator Melaye has moved forward with his decision to file a petition over the declaration of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Smart Adeyemi, as the winner of the recent Kogi West senatorial election.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, who made the statement in an interview with journalists in Abuja, said the petition would be filed on Monday.
According to him,
“We are going to the tribunal. We are going to file our application at the tribunal. We won the election."
Meanwhile, Dino Melaye described Adeyemi Smart's victory as temporaral in a series of tweets. He said,
“I will challenge the temporal and evaporative victory of Adeyemi at the tribunal. Victory attained by violence and fraud is tantamount to defeat… for it is momentary.
However, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan said Melaye, who was the Kogi West Senatorial candidate, is not alone in the struggle as it affects Nigerians and the electoral system as a whole.
He said “It is not about Dino Melaye. It’s about Nigeria and our electoral system. I stay the course. It's not over yet.” He reiterated that the party and candidate are going to court.
