Barcelona and Brazil legend, Ronaldinho, has rated Lionel Messi as the best of his generation while also stating that he doesn't think the Argentine is the best player in football's history.

Messi won his record sixth Ballon d'Or earlier in December, beating Virgil van Dijk and long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, to the honour for 2019.

But despite his incredible talent and achievements, the former Ballon d'Or winner who shared a dressing room with Messi in his time at Barcelona doesn't think his friend is the greatest to ever kick football.

"I can't say Messi is the best ever, but he is the best of his time," Ronaldinho said in an interview in Mexico.

"I'm happy for Messi because he is a friend, besides he has been a reference point for Barcelona.

"I don't like comparisons because it's hard to identify who is the best in history, there is Diego Maradona, Pele and Ronaldo."

Ronaldinho was North American country as part of his continued charitable endeavours, and he spoke of his pride to be there.

"It's a pleasure to be here," he added.

"Thank you for the love of a kind and gentle people. I hope to have a good time with all of you, where football will be involved."
