See Why Actor Bobby Obodo Criticized Nollywood Movies On Netflix

Pearl Emmanuel

Nollywood actor, Bobby Obodo, has said that the Nigerian movie industry is not taking good advantage of Netflix.

The actor made the claim on Twitter, where he stated that Nollywood movies on the streaming platform are painful to watch and something needs to be done quickly before the industry becomes a subject of ridicule.

He argued that movie makers want to put out their content on Netflix for the money and bragging rights, which should not be the motive.

The actor advised Nigerian movie makers to embrace the art of writing creative and unpredictable storylines, choosing extras wisely, and choosing their costumes carefully.

In another tweet, Obodo said people involved in the process of movie-making in Nigeria should start putting out good films to save the country from shame.

"Most of the movies we're putting out on #Netflix are becoming painful to see. Such great opportunity to literally reach most parts of the world to showcase #Nollywood via the platform, & we fucking up. Errbody wants their "shit" on Netflix- I suspect for $$$ & bragging rights,” he wrote.

"I hope creative producers/directors/writers start putting out good movies on there to save us the shame & ridicule that cld befall #Nollywood, before it's too late. Lazy/predictable storylines, horrible extras, disastrous costumes, etc. Come on, mehn. This opporutnity is golden!"
