The organisers of Afropunk have said that the ‘African Giant’ hitmaker, Burna Boy, will no longer perform at the festival this year.

"Following a joint decision by Afropunk and Burna Boy, we regret to announce that Burna Boy will no longer be part of the festival’s Joburg 2019 edition at Constitution Hill from 30 to 31 December,” a statement released by the organisers read.

“Afropunk is still committed to providing music lovers and fans a safe space to express themselves while they enjoy incredible performances from the impressive line-up which includes Solange, Miguel, Nao, Masego, GoldLink, Sho Madjozi, Kwani Experience and many other artists this year.

“We are grateful to South Africa, our community, and to the many wonderful artists who will be with us on the 30th and 31st of December, and to the friends and colleagues that have made Afropunk Joburg 2019 possible.”

Recall that during the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Burna Boy expressed his resentment against the incident. He also engaged in a Twitter war with South African music star, AKA, not too long ago.
