Following Tuesday night's Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards ceremony which held in Egypt, the continent's football governing body has released the breakdown of the votes.

In a process that saw a voting panel consisting of the CAF Technical & Development Committee, Media Experts, Legends, head coaches/technical directors, and captains of the senior national teams from CAF's member associations, Senegal's Sadio Mane, and Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala were crowned the male, and female best footballers of the year respectively.

Liverpool winger, Sadio Mane scored 477 points to beat club teammate Mohamed Salah (325 points), and Algeria's Riyad Mahrez (267 points), while Asisat Oshoala’s 351 points edged out Cameroon's Ajara Nchout’s 321 points, and South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana’s 247 points to win the honour for a record fourth time.

Nigerian women's football legend, Perpetual Nkwocha, was one of those asked to vote, and surprisingly, she ranked her compatriot, Oshoala fifth in her submission.

The five-time African Women's Nations Cup winner opted for Ajara Nchout, Tabitha Chawinga, Gabrielle Ouguene to occupy her top three slots, with Oshoala in fifth.

The revealing of Nkwocha's vote has attracted several comments online, with many suggesting that she didn't rate Oshoala high because she didn't want the Barcelona forward to match her record.

Meanwhile, Nkwocha has congratulated Oshoala in an Instagram post and encouraged her to strive to set new records in the coming years.

Oshoala also reacted to the news of Perpetual Nkwocha's snub with a cheeky post on her Twitter page.

She wrote: "Even as ice cream 🍦sweet reach, no b everybody like am 🤷🏾‍♀️ yeah it’s all good on this side....... INSIDE LIFE .....GRACE!!!"
