Learn why a morning routine is the best way to start your day.
As humans, we have more control over our lives than we credit ourselves for but we have succeeded in seceding control for several reasons.
Your day can begin in either of these two ways:
How your day begins is important, as it sets the tone for the entire day and nothing gives you more control like determining how your day will go, than a morning routine. A morning routine gives you purpose as soon as you wake up and making it a routine or habit makes it your default or go-to behaviour as soon as you are up.
An important part of your morning routine is knowing why you want to get up that morning and what you have to look forward to. Knowing this will help you get out of bed easily the next morning and it will not be because you are late.
If you are not convinced as to whether or not you should have a morning routine, here are five reasons:
1. It reduces stress
Having a routine takes away the normal pressure of what to do when you wake up and helps you get things done in the morning without thinking about it and anything done mechanically is not stressed about.
It will be hard to develop the habit but the moment it becomes a routine or habit it becomes automatic and you will move from one task to another without thought. Your entire morning will flow without thought, just like the process of brushing your teeth or taking a bath.
2. You will gain time
It is a given, because you know what needs to be done and in which order it needs to be done. It will help you move faster from one task to the other without thinking about it; hence, wasting less time wondering about what to do next.
3. You will be less likely to forget something
To tell you the truth, you may need to start with a to-do list to keep yourself in check but the moment you are used to it, that is it! It is like forgetting to chew your meal. That will never happen.
4. You will take care of yourself
The morning is usually the only time of the day when we remember to actually take care of ourselves. It is when we take a bath, consider meditating or praying, when we pick out what we wear. However, because of the rush we are usually in at mornings, we leave self-care for special occasions like birthdays or Valentine’s Day.
With a morning routine, you are guaranteed to slate enough time for yourself; from prayer time to time for journaling, to exercise and to be a better you.
5. You will sleep well
Simply because of the way your morning is planned, you will end up sleeping well. Once you take control of your morning, the day usually falls in place for you, and as such, you do what you need to do in time and have sufficient time to sleep.
