Reports emerging from Bilabiri community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, disclosed that some military personnel on Friday allegedly invaded and razed down some buildings in the community in response to the killing of their fellow comrades.

The resident reportedly fled the community and into the creeks for safety as the soldiers stormed the community in search of vengeance over the killing of their colleagues few weeks ago.

The Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe, Major Jonah Unuakhalu, did not respond to enquiries on the incident.

Close sources claims that the killing of the military personnel few weeks ago was caused by the interception of a dredger belonging to Sterling Global and the suspected pirates who snatched the vessel also abducted two Russian nationals and one Indian. It was on this rescue mission that a confrontation ensued, and the soldiers were killed and several others injured.

A resident who wants to remain anonymous said that the incident had caused fear among residents who had either fled into the bush or found their way into neighbouring villages in Delta State.

In a reaction to the attack, the Ekeremor Federated Youth Council (EFYC), led by Mr Etolor Prince, characterized the actions of the military as very unprofessional. He noted that it was sad that the military would attack a whole community because some bad bandits allegedly attacked their personnel.

“The ongoing military invasion at Bilabiri community is one too many in Ekeremor LGA and it is so sad that I have to once again condemn this continuous unprofessional act of the Nigerian military at the slightest provocation”.
